DISCOVERY IS A PRACTICAL PROCESS THAT HELPS YOUR CHURCH BECOME A TRANSFORMING INFLUENCE WITHIN YOUR COMMUNITY Written by skilled practitioners who have worked extensively in inner-city communities, Discovery draws on Tearfund’s experience of working with churches and community groups in the UK and overseas. It aims to build on the strength and aspirations of your particular church or group, helping you assess the needs of your community, develop a plan to meet some of those needs and turn this plan into action. It’s full of creative exercises, ideas, advice and biblical reflections. This seminar will:
Patrick Prior to joining Tearfund’s UK and Ireland team, Patrick has been an inner city Pastor for some 25 years delivering a significant, award winning community project in the city of Stoke on Trent and helping the church to engage with its local community. In his current role he uses Tearfund’s 40 years of experience from around the world to help encourage the church in integral mission. Patrick works with local churches in deprived areas to build their capacity to engage with the needs of the poor in their vicinity. This includes challenging a culture of non involvement and inspiring the local church to demonstrate, in practical ways, God’s love for the poor.
Lynne Lynne joined Tearfund as Scotland Director in August 2009. She previously worked for Royal Mail for over 10 years in a variety of roles. During this time she served on the board of Christians in Communications, an organisation which aims to strengthen believers and encourage Christian witness in the communications industry. After leaving Royal Mail, Lynne spent a year at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, where God started to reveal more of his heart for those living in poverty. Her current role is to partner with the Scottish church in lifting 50 million people from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
